Students

Master Course in Computer Engineering (all the Tracks)

Goals

The course aims at providing students with a deep knowledge on business process modelling and enactment. Acquired skills will enable students to: analyze a business process, model it, and execute it by a workflow management system (WfMS); focus on the basic features of a WfMS; know the state of the art and the new frontiers of ongoing research on process modeling, new applications domains, and WfMSs.

Course outline

Major topics are:
  1. Business process modelling: identification, description (WIDE conceptual model, UML, BPMN), and enactment
  2. Workflow management systems
  3. Standards and recommendations
  4. Legal issues

Practical lessons

Practical lessons will be delivered by Giuseppe Pozzi.

Examinations

Examinations consist of a written test, an oral discussion, and a presentation or a project. The written test and the oral discussion lead to a maximum of 25 points: presentations or projects lead to a maximum of 8 points. The grand total of available points is 33, corresponding to "30 e LODE".
During lesson time (October-January), students may give one presentation on a topic related to the course topics and defined by the teacher: template files for the Powerpoint presentation can be found at the following link (zip file).
Alternatively, students may present a project which consists of the implementation of a real business process by a workflow management system: the topic and the complexity of the project will be defined by the teacher.
